The B2B software market has been shifting for many years from On-Premise software, to either being hosted in a Private Cloud or offered as a service in the Public Cloud, which is referred to as software as a service, or SaaS for short. As consumers, we are all familiar with SaaS, with many of us frequently using Amazon, eBay and Netflix etc.
Just over a year ago, Microsoft took the core functionality of Dynamics NAV (previously Navision) and re-designed it as a Public Cloud (SaaS) offering. They called it Dynamics 365 Business Edition and then renamed it to Dynamics 365 Business Central, releasing it to market on 2nd April 2018. As leaders in the Microsoft Community, Azzure IT were well aware of this and we embraced this new product from the start. We established ourselves as a leading provider of Business Central Cloud and in the first 6 months signed up more Customers than any other Partner. We therefore understand its strengths and its current limitations; combined with our appreciation of Microsoft’s ambitions, we can knowledgeably advise you of its relevance to you.
In November 2018, Microsoft launched Dynamics 365 Business Edition On-Premise. This is the successor for Dynamics NAV and is the next evolution of that product. Built on the foundation of Dynamics NAV and containing all its functionality, configurability and customisation capability, D365 Business Central On-Premise is the natural successor for anyone using Dynamics NAV.
Any customisations or changes you have in your Dynamics NAV system can be moved by Azzure to Business Central On-Premise; and this product can, of course, be used
The move from Dynamics NAV to Business Central does, however, change the licensing from Concurrent Users with Dynamics NAV to Named Users with Business Central. However, you still have an Perpetual License or Subscription License available.
If you are a current Microsoft Dynamics NAV user, do remember that there is no rush to move to Business Central.
Your business can continue to add additional Concurrent Users to your existing Dynamics NAV system until at least June 2020. When you move to D365 Business Central, any NAV Concurrent Users purchased prior to 1st October 2018 will be converted to 2 Named Users. Any NAV Concurrent Users purchased from 1st October 2018 will be converted to 1 Named User.
